Well I failed to qualify music compo screening, so I think I can publish my song here now, enjoy:
Oh yes, we're going to be back @ the party this year too. Things that have changed, that would be my PC, I am sporting pretty sweet machine this year:
- Q6600 @ 3.2GHz
- 4GB DDR2 800MHz
- ATI/AMD HD4870 @ 790 / 1100 (effective 4400MHz), memory bandwidth over 1.4TFlops
- Gigabyte EP35-DS4
- Plus random stuff..
Well anyways, I am going to blog from the event and maybe broadcast some web-cam feed for anyone to see on this site.
Last sunday I felt strange pain in my left eye when focusing on close objects and also when exposed to bright lights. Being no eye-doctor, I just though that this would be ye-olde-regular eye infection or something on those lines. Well today I went to see mr.doctor and he thought that this is no regular infection but Iriditis, I was like "whoa what the hell!". Well luckily it ain't bid deal if treated but when untreated it could lead to deteriation of eye-sight etc..
Needless to say I am bit troubled with it, as couple months ago I had same kind of symptoms but the ms.doctor only gave me scription for eye-infection medicine. Well the problem went away, for a brief amount of time it seems. Of course I asked for eye-doctors appointment but it seems that there just isn't any available times on private sector before august and that's bad. Now I have to this eye policlinic and it seems I am going to spend a day there, stupid other people. Kinda distracting that you can't get the treatment even when you're ready to pay for it. And I don't really have time to spend a day waiting there, I am supposed to get something done but no. Me angry and eye hurting!
*Update*
So I went to see a doctor and see how I ended up, all O-o looking:![]()
The good news are that I got the medicine and eye should be all ok in 15 days or so.
What a nice midsummer weekend, only couple of rain showers and somewhat cold. But that sure beats staying in city and getting bored out of your mind there. I haven't been able to blog for a while, just being so busy at work and rather out of ideas. But this all is going to change now that my vacation starts in a week and I can lay those work things out of my mind for brief moment.
Seems that couple days off from work ain't enough to clear my mind of work related things, woke-up this morning from dream that involved me working the things I usually do. Boring. Seems that I really need a vacation as every game bores the hell out of me, that's odd but not that unusual considering the stress I have endured lately. Luckily I managed to compose rather tight metal song that I'm going to premiere of this years Assembly Summer @ Helsinki City.
On other news that new Samsung A6 series of FullHD lcd tv's sure look nice and affordable, might have to buy one soon. Maybe after vacation, sure could use new tv. Why no go fullHD as it's rather cheap nowadays. All for now, more on coming weeks, after I get my vacation started...
I don't know what clicked on my mind when I pressed the 'flash' button tonight but I do know that the consequences were rather catastrophic, at least from bios chips point of view. Stupid really, my mistake, Asus winflash has so far worked ok but that was on x86 side of xp and vista and now that I have switched over to X64 flavor it was bound to fail, why I did not use the ez-flash beats me. Result one dead mobo. Tomorrow I go and buy gigabyte P35 one and so on, but stupid waste of money in either case.
Today we also rearranged the whole flat, much more spacey now, pictures will follow.
I received first contender for my thesis subject today, seems to be pretty challenging but not too hard (in the meaning that it can be done). Of course studying at the ICT field my thesis is going to be some kind of system development case. So this first proposition looks like it has to have some kind of Excel export feature among other things. Now, I did some research and (of couse as the XLS is Microsoft proprietary format, tools to produce exports are rather limited) it looks like once again couple of Apache projects are needed to solve that problem.
Best way for my knowledge is to use Excel to produce templates having all the needed formatting, formulas, etc.. and then in combination of Apache POI and jXls produce wanted exports. Only thing that is needed is to put some tags to that XLS template for jXls to be able to insert data to correct locations. This is if the exports are going to be about same in every case.
Other not so good way is to output HTML table and set MIME code to MS-Excel, this way we could make whatever Excel sheets but formatting would be somewhat limited to fonts and colours + Excel exports done that way look like shit anyways. I think we would go with the former if the exports are going to be standard. But nothing is confirmed yet, it's just that this task seems to be less on the trivial side and more on the usefull side.
On the other side a.k.a other stuff, tomorrow: work, again I am pulling way more hours than my contract *mentalnote to self* ask for more salary and clarification to real working hours. At the evening I have this Linux course, rather ok. On the music side, nothing much to report, down tuned my guitar to drop-C and it sucks. Have to tune it back to D-tune, drop-C makes everything to sound like crap mallcore, yuck!
Ha, managed to finally fix that notorious relative url problem with tinyMCE. Here's what I did, instead of using:
<a href="javascript:tinyMCE.execCommand('inserthtml', false, 'LINK AND IMAGE URL');>IMAGE</a>
I used:
<a href="#" onclick="tinyMCE.execCommand('mceInsertContent',false,'LINK AND IMAGE URL');return false">IMAGE</a>
I think it had something to do with inserthtml being standard moz DOM command and mceInsertContent being tinyMCE's own command. For some reason inserthtml did not regard convert_url rules at all.
Just as when I was thinking that the next weekend would be the one to rest and recuperate, only I did not know that I massively failed on that assumption. No, it's work work for Mr.Antti as our deadline is approaching, testing needs to happen and we need to assure that everything is consistent. Bus ride home today did suck like a megaton, I were so pissed that...Goddamnit. (Not that I believe in that old fart.) Well anyways, I know that I have rather importat duty to attend at work but come on, man needs some rest now and then (now the all non-believers are saying "grave grants the rest").
Well anyways luckily we're having some great action going on the Civilization 4 - Beyond the Sword front with grelbar, so I can rest my brain and hack that away. Tomorrow is the deadline for my JavaEE course, supposedly I'd have to draw some kind of an class diagram but I'm in no mood to create such diagram, 130 classes for fucks sake. It's only 5 points and I think I have gotten most of it. Self-studying secrets of Hibernate and Struts and that to be honest is enough for me.
Steven over at the Anomalous Anomaly have composed nice and detailed list how the browsers score on the Acid 3 test. Results are pretty much as you'd expect them to be. Firefox 3 beta 3 doing pretty OK (69%) while the latest build of Safari for Mac OS X 10 scores nice 90%. But then it gets excited, well interesting as IE 5.5 leaves its younger brothers IE 6 and IE 7 behind not by much (2%) but leaves them behind nevertheless. Interesting, how so archaic browser could pull something like that off? Beats me
We did some cleaning, ordering and throwing stuff, useless junk away, when I found my 'lost' N800 Internet Tablet. I promptly (after the cleaning stuff :)) to update it with latest IT OS 2008, which by the way is damn sweet compared to the older 2007 version. New version also enables some speed enhancements and allegedly "overclocks" the cpu a bit, to match the speed of the N810 brother model. Well anyways I still haven't found any great us for it except occasional GPS usage and odd game chess or two during long travels.
But check this out, I pimped it with some sweet Star Trek theme:
Now my N800 is all futuristic and shit, geeky I say, geeky and that's how we like it around here!
Update
damn image urls change faster than I change socks, actually it's a issue with tinyMCE but I am working to fix it, that is sometime tomorrow, or not.
